Taiwanese Tax Agency Seizes Uber's Assets

On March 15 the Taiwanese tax authority froze Uber Taiwan's bank account and seized office equipment, in the latest development in the long-running battle between the ride-sharing application provider and local authorities.

Local media reports said TWD11.84m (USD387,000) had been seized by the National Taxation Bureau of Taipei, to partially pay for TWD51.24m in taxes said to be outstanding for 2015.

The firm has also been hit with significant fines for failing to register as a taxi service. Uber says that it does not provide taxi services and in February it suspended operations in the territory.
